31st Moortidevi Award for the year 2017 Poet Joy Goswami

The Moortidevi Award is an India literary award annually presented by the Bharatiya Jnanpith, a literary and research organisation, to an author.The award is given only to Indian writers writing in Indian languages.


  • Eminent Bengali poet Joy Goswami was on December 15, 2017 selected for Bharatiya Jnanpith’s 31st Moortidevi Award for the year 2017 for his poetry collection titled ‘Du Dondo Phowara Matro’ which is an autobiographical account of the poet’s life featuring his close ones including a pet cat.
  • It is the first time the award will be given to a Bengali poet.
  • The annual Moortidevi Award is presented for a contemplative and perceptive work which expresses, underlines and illuminates human values written in any Indian languages or English.
  • The award consists of a Saraswati Statue, a Citation Plaque and cash award of Rupees 4 lakh.
